Toybox Children’s Nursery, located at Coleg Cambria Deeside, has received an outstanding inspection report, marking a successful start to the academic year. The nursery was awarded an ‘Excellent’ rating in three key categories by Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW) and Estyn, specifically in Wellbeing, Care and Development, and Leadership and Management.
This positive news follows the nursery’s recognition as a finalist for the Setting of the Year at the previous year’s Early Years Wales Awards. The nursery has recently completed a significant revamp of its outdoor play area, which now boasts enhanced safety surfaces, new fencing, and an array of wooden furniture and play equipment.
With over 90 children enrolled and 35 dedicated staff members, Toybox has become one of the most popular nurseries in north-east Wales. Manager Ann Johnson expressed her delight at the inspection results, stating, “We are obviously delighted with the outcome and as always will strive to raise the bar even higher in the years ahead.”
Johnson extended her gratitude to the nursery’s staff and the supportive parents and carers, acknowledging their vital role in the nursery’s success. “None of this would have been possible without you,” she added.
Looking to the future, Johnson noted the importance of maintaining the positive momentum generated by the recent feedback. “The challenge now is to maintain and build on the positive feedback and recommendations, which will ensure an even happier, safer, and inspirational environment for the children.”
In addition to its ‘Excellent’ ratings, inspectors also graded Toybox as ‘Good’ in three categories: Learning, Teaching and Assessment, and Environment. As a result of its impressive performance, the nursery has been invited to collaborate with CIW and Estyn on a case study that highlights its commitment to forging close relationships with parents and carers.
The inspection report praised the nursery’s environment, stating, “Children of all ages communicate successfully in their own way, and practitioners respond to them expertly.” It highlighted the warm relationships fostered between children and practitioners, emphasising the high level of support that helps children feel safe and valued.
The report further noted that practitioners at Toybox are kind, caring, and supportive, using effective behaviour management strategies to create a positive and engaging atmosphere. It acknowledged the leadership’s effectiveness in creating an inclusive and welcoming environment that nurtures the children’s development.
Moreover, the nursery’s engagement with parents was described as outstanding, with regular play and stay sessions fostering a sense of community. Parents are actively included in the nursery’s operations, ensuring they are well-informed and feel valued in the setting.
As Toybox Children’s Nursery celebrates its success, the focus remains on continuous improvement and providing an enriching experience for all children in its care.
