Passengers on DFDS Ferries’ cross-channel routes will soon be able to enjoy one of Britain’s most famous culinary traditions, as Harry Ramsden’s prepares to launch its signature fish and chips onboard six vessels from Spring 2025.
The partnership will see Harry Ramsden’s dishes served on routes between Dover and Calais, as well as Dover and Dunkirk, with the full rollout expected to be completed by Easter. The initiative introduces the brand’s “Proudly Serving” model to DFDS’s fleet, ensuring freshly prepared meals made with sustainably sourced ingredients.
Three UK-flagged and three French-flagged ships, including Delft Seaways, Dover Seaways, and Dunkerque Seaways, will offer the new menu. The move is seen as a significant step in bringing a quintessentially British experience to ferry travellers crossing the Channel.
James Low, CEO of Deep Blue Restaurants, which owns Harry Ramsden’s, said the partnership reflected a shared focus on delivering quality food and customer service.
“By bringing our world-famous fish and chips to the high seas, we continue our mission to share Britain’s most cherished tradition with travellers worldwide,” he said. “We are thrilled to be partnering with such a reputable and innovative operator and look forward to a fruitful collaboration.”
The “Proudly Serving” model is designed to make Harry Ramsden’s signature dishes available in a scalable and flexible format while maintaining the brand’s well-known quality. Every dish will feature the brand’s secret-recipe batter and premium potatoes sourced from trusted British farms. The initiative is supported by extensive training for staff, branded packaging, and operational oversight to ensure consistency across all vessels. The menu may also expand further by Summer 2025 to include additional items from the Harry Ramsden’s range.
DFDS, one of Europe’s leading ferry operators, sees the partnership as an opportunity to enhance its onboard food offering.
“DFDS is very excited about partnering with Harry Ramsden’s to bring world-famous fish and chips to our onboard ferry customers,” said Steven Newbery, Director of Global Onboard Services at DFDS. “We see it as a great match of two heritage brands, but more importantly, it’s a partnership that will enhance the quality of our bestselling onboard dish. Fish and chips remain a holiday favourite, and together with Harry Ramsden’s, we’re confident that we can deliver the consistent quality that we want for our passengers.”
Sustainability is a key focus for both companies. All fish used in Harry Ramsden’s dishes is MSC-certified, sourced from responsibly managed fisheries, and served in fully recyclable packaging. DFDS, which has a strong commitment to sustainable operations, sees the partnership as a way to align its onboard food service with its broader environmental goals.
As ferry travel continues to be a popular choice for cross-channel passengers, the introduction of Harry Ramsden’s onboard is expected to provide a welcome taste of home for British travellers and an authentic experience for international visitors. Passengers setting sail with DFDS Ferries this spring will be among the first to sample the new menu.
